Small Groups are communities of 6-12 people that are loving, learning and growing together. Small groups are the life of Crossroads. They are where relationships are built and care takes place. We have men's groups, women's groups, and mixed groups. Some are for beginners in the faith. Others are for developing leaders.

Grassroots Student Ministry - Middle & High School

Grassroots is the Student Ministry of Crossroads Christian Church. We exist to help students grow in their faith in God, and become a movement for God that affects our friends, families, and world.

Sunday Mornings:

We meet in the gym at 11:00am at the High School of Telecommunications, Arts, and Technology. This is a great time for the students to hang out, have fun, and learn about God.

Small Groups:

Each group is made of one adult leader and several students. They meet one time during the week for about 2 hours (during the school year). It is a time for the students to grow deeper in community with one another, to help them deal with real life issues they face, and to go deeper with God.

Service Projects:

Periodically throughout the year we have different Service Projects in which the students can participate. These are opportunities for the students to serve other people and help their community.

Fun Events:

Several times a month we will have events for the students where they can come and have fun. These include Movie Nights (1st Friday of the month), Karaoke Nights, Video Game Nights, Holiday Parties, and other events. Make sure to check the calendar for the times and dates of any upcoming events.

Humans are hard-wired for worship. Did you know that? We'll go to any lengths to find what we feel is worth worshiping. A sports team, a political or charitable figure, a relationship, or even a job. Whatever it is, we are bound to be disappointed and let down- our favorite team loses, that public figure fails us somehow, the relationship or job ends. What if there was someone worthy of worship that would never fail us in these ways or any other way? At Crossroads we believe that God is the answer to that question. He is with us on our search for truth, when we first encounter him, and as we continue to grow to know him better. This is the God of our worship. Please join us as we grow and continue to learn about the many reasons God gives us to worship!

The worship style at Crossroads is upbeat, modern, and fresh. It’s an honest look at our God, and who we are in light of Him. God is touched with worship that is straight from our hearts, so whether you choose to clap and raise your hands, or just sit and engage him in silence, we encourage your honest and heartfelt response to Him. While music is a great vehicle that we use to express our hearts to God, it’s not about the music. It’s about truly worshipping God with all of our lives.

We believe in a God that's real. He's revealed in the pages of a 2000 year-old book, but He's just as present, real, and active in our lives as ever. He loves us and wants us to know Him and experience Him.

The Crossroads Outreach Team holds monthly community service events in our neighborhood that benefit people in Bay Ridge and its surrounding communities. Monthly projects range from working with children, serving seniors, helping local food pantries, making cards for those who are sick or in prison, and more. The opportunity to serve others is open to everyone. Come out and meet new people as you lend the community a hand. If you know others who would be interested, bring a friend!

How can I get involved?: Each month is a different project. Check out our blog (www.crossroadsoutreach.blogspot.com) for monthly events and dates or follow us on Facebook (Crossroads Outreach Team).

**Kids programming takes place during the 11:00 service only**

Our Children's Ministry is designed especially for kids and helps them to understand how to worship! We don't try to mimic the adult worship, but provide appropriate activities and experiences for children. It balances worship and biblical instruction using a variety of activities.

From birth to age six, children have their greatest spiritual sensitivity to God! Therefore, we need to make sure (as the church) that we do not miss this precious opportunity. Children need to be actively involved in their worship of God! What they learn and experience concerning their relationship with God at this impressionable age can impact the course of their future spiritual life.

Classes meet during the adult service on Sunday mornings. We'll show you where to go! Parents, you are welcome to accompany your child to their class at any time.

**Kids programming is offered only during the 11:00 service**

It is our desire that you feel comfortable each week knowing that your child will have a place they can call their own. Each class is designed around the needs of a specific age range. For potty-trained three year olds through kindergartners we balance fun and interactive learning with the structured play that a child this age needs.

**Nursery is available during the 11:00am service only**

The Nursery Ministry is an integral part of the overall ministry of Crossroads. The purpose of our nursery is ministry, not babysitting. The goal of those who minister in the nursery is to service children in such a way that they will feel loved and valued and happy to grow up in the church. We strive to meet the needs of babies and toddlers, and to provide a service for you, the parent.

Our nursery is available for infants to children 3 years of age. Children who are 3 years old and are potty trained should attend our Pre-K / Kindergarten class.

As our Youth and Children's ministries grow and change, it will be essential to get involvement from parents and others in the church. Our ministry to kids can only be great as God accomplishes extraordinary things through ordinary people like us.We encourage all parents to sit in on their child's class and see what their child is learning. We also ask parents and others to consider opportunities to get involved in ministering to kids. You may feel intimidated, thinking that the only way to get involved is to teach, but we also have needs for helpers at all age levels. People to just be there to help the teachers and to love kids!

We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to living by faith, being known by love, and being a voice of hope to our city and world.

To us, faith, love, and hope are the values of the revolution Jesus came to begin. They are the values that form us into the image of the One who made us. We long for God's dream for our lives and for our world to become a reality. And His love for us is what spurs us on.

Fleshed out, here's what it means to us and those who become part of our community.

Participation - What To Expect...

We encourage an environment where people can participate as much or as little as they want. There are activities during the service that encourage interaction, upbeat music, and plenty of free food and coffee (for those of us who feel that food is the REAL way to the soul!). During the service, you'll see people who raise their hands and people who don't, people who clap their hands and people who don't. There are a variety of ways that people interact with music and teaching, and we want you to participate in whatever way you feel comfortable. We want you to enjoy your time here- church shouldn't be a chore!

We want to have satisfied volunteers in our ministry. We want to know your needs, interests, and expertise. We want to develop a detailed job description. We want to ask for a reasonable commitment (6 months or 1 year at a time not forever!) We want to train, support, encourage, and recognize you. If you have questions about what you can do click here and ask!

Volunteers are the heart of what happens in this church. Our ministry wouldn't grow without you.

Is it okay for a church to meet at a public school?? - at a SCHOOL??

All over the United States schools rent to nonprofits and religious organizations for the purpose of holding services. It's a benefit to the schools because they get rent for the building when it would otherwise be empty. It's also a benefit to the organizations that are looking for practical meeting space.

Still, some wonder if it's a violation of the "separation of church and state" or if it imposes religion on the students of those schools in any way. The answer to both of those questions is "no." Churches that meet in schools (like ours) do not have a presence in the school in any way while school is in session. During the week there is no trace of the church having been there. Most students and teachers aren't even aware that a church is meeting in their building.

Since the school does not allow the church to have an influence on students in any way, there is no violation of the "separation of church and state." In fact, recently the courts of New York State have ruled it unconstitutional for schools to dicriminate who they rent to based on religious reasons. Churches are simply tenants like any other organization that might rent.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to give us a call. 718-439-5098.

There are many opportunities to get involved at Crossroads. Perhaps you're gifted in working with children, or maybe you like serving adults. Or do you like music or other creative arts? Maybe you like to help behind the scenes by preparing food or setting up or tearing down for the service. If you're interested in getting involved in some way, please email us or call the church office.

In the Bible, one of the biggest ways to praise God was through music. David, a great king of Israel in the Bible, was a musician and songwriter. Music has a way of communicating with our hearts in a way that words sometimes can't. It connects with a person deep down and we believe that this is one way that God speaks to us. He can stir something in us while we listen to music when words fail. It's a great gift that God has given to us, and we're going to use it!

During the service we take up an offering. This goes to further the ministry of the church- growing God's people spiritually and reaching out to others to show them God's love. If you're not a member, or are just stopping by to check us out, don't feel obligated to give.
