Hi, my name is Dan Johnson. I just graduated from college in May and am very excited to be out here in Bay Ridge. I enjoy playing basketball, watching movies, and just hanging out. My passion is to minister teenagers. They always make life interesting and astound me time and time again. Anyways, I am thrilled to be the intern here at Crossroads. I know God is going to stretch and mold me over these next 12 months.

"Let your roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught." -Colossians 2:7 Everyone is somewhere on the journey and we all grow from the ground up. It's no different for teenagers. Grassroots exists to encourage the spiritual journey of middle and high school students as they put down roots in their faith and branch out to those around them.

Real seeking takes place at Crossroads. It's a great place to explore and develop your relationship with God and get to know others who want to do the same. We talk about real life, the struggles and the victories. We believe the journey is as important as the destination.

We believe in a God that's real. He's revealed in the pages of a 2000 year-old book, but He's just as present, real, and active in our lives as ever. He loves us and wants us to know Him and experience Him.

**Nursery is available during the 11:00am service only**

The Nursery Ministry is an integral part of the overall ministry of Crossroads. The purpose of our nursery is ministry, not babysitting. The goal of those who minister in the nursery is to service children in such a way that they will feel loved and valued and happy to grow up in the church. We strive to meet the needs of babies and toddlers, and to provide a service for you, the parent.

Our nursery is available for infants to children 3 years of age. Children who are 3 years old and are potty trained should attend our Pre-K / Kindergarten class.

Is it okay for a church to meet at a public school?? - at a SCHOOL??

All over the United States schools rent to nonprofits and religious organizations for the purpose of holding services. It's a benefit to the schools because they get rent for the building when it would otherwise be empty. It's a benefit to the organizations that are looking for practical meeting space.

Still, some wonder if it's a violation of the "separation of church and state" or if it imposes religion on the students of those schools in any way. The answer to both of those questions is "no." Churches that meet in schools (like ours) do not have a presence in the school in any way while school is in session. During the week there is no trace of the church having been there. Most students and teachers aren't even aware that a church is meeting in their building.

Since the school does not allow the church to have an influence on students in any way, there is no violation of the "separation of church and state." In fact, recently the courts of New York State have ruled it unconstitutional for schools to dicriminate who they rent to based on religious reasons. Churches are simply tenants like any other organization that might rent.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, feel free to give us a call. 718-439-5098.

In the Bible, one of the biggest ways to praise God was through music. David, a great king of Israel in the Bible, was a musician and songwriter. Music has a way of communicating with our hearts in a way that words sometimes can't. It connects with a person deep down and we believe that this is one way that God speaks to us. He can stir something in us while we listen to music when words fail. It's a great gift that God has given to us, and we're going to use it!

During the service we take up an offering. This goes to further the ministry of the church- growing God's people spiritually and reaching out to others to show them God's love. If you're not a member, or are just stopping by to check us out, don't feel obligated to give.

Despite the 2.5 million people in Brooklyn alone, this city can get quite lonely. One of the things you'll find at Crossroads is a group of people who are open to new friendships, and people who will love you no matter where you are in life. There are ample opportunities at Crossroads to connect with other people on the journey!

We encourage an environment where people can participate as much or as little as they want. There are activities during the service that encourage interaction, upbeat music, and plenty of free food and coffee (for those of us who feel that food is the REAL way to the soul!). During the service, you'll see people who raise their hands and people who don't, people who clap their hands and people who don't. There are a variety of ways that people interact with music and teaching, and we want you to participate in a way you feel comfortable. We want you to enjoy your time here- church shouldn't be a chore!

Communion is a part of the service where we take a look back and remember the sacrifice that God made when His son, Jesus, died on the cross 2000 years ago. It's part of our worship because it's a reminder of what God gave up for us, and just how much He loves us.

The worship style at Crossroads is upbeat, modern, and fresh. It’s an honest look at who we are and who God is to us. God is touched with worship that is straight from our hearts, so whether you choose to clap, raise your hands, dance, or just sit and experience Him, we encourage your honest and heartfelt response to Him. While music is a great vehicle to express our hearts to God, it’s not about the music. It’s about truly worshipping God with all of our lives.

There are people singing, talking, laughing, hanging out, and having a good time. You start to wonder if they really know what their songs mean and if they even know who the party is for. At Crossroads, we know who the party is for and that’s Jesus. We believe that he’s active today and will actually show up at the party! He’ll even hang out with you after the party is over so you can continue to get to know Him. So join us as we celebrate Jesus, and get to know other people who are on the same journey you are- to find the God who is real and gives us a reason to sing!

We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to living by faith, being known by love, and being a voice of hope to our city and world.

To us, faith, love, and hope are more than just pretty words that belong on greeting cards and in poems. They are values of the revolution Jesus came to begin. They are the values that form us into the image of the One who made us. We long for God's dream for our lives and our world to become a reality. And His love for us is what spurs us on.

Fleshed out, here's what it means to us and those who become part of our community.

AllStars Minor League (Pre-K / K) - Pre-K / Kindergarten

**Pre-K / Kindergarten is offered only during the 11:00 service**

It is our desire that you feel comfortable each week knowing that your child will have a place they can call their own. Each class is designed around the needs of a specific age range. For potty-trained three year olds through kindergartners we balance fun and interactive learning with the structured play that a child this age needs.

There are many opportunities to get involved at Crossroads. Perhaps you're gifted in working with children, or maybe you like serving adults. Or do you like music or other creative arts? Maybe you like to help behind the scenes by preparing food or setting up or tearing down for the service. If you're interested in getting involved in some way, please email Andrea our Connections Ministry Director, or call the church office.

Small Groups are communities of 6-12 people that are loving, learning and growing together. Small groups are the life of Crossroads. They are where relationships are built and care takes place. We have men's groups, women's groups, and mixed groups. Some are for beginners in the faith. Others are for developing leaders. For more information on groups contact the church office!

No perfect people allowed!! You don't have to know all the answers. You don't have to dress a certain way. You don't have to be perfect. In fact, we have a perfection detector at the door. If you try to come in with it, you'll have to leave it with security! Authenticity is what we strive for!

Come as you are! That refers to the dress code (informal) and the attitude. At our services, we don't expect people to have their lives "together" (whatever that means!) We believe that no matter where you are on your journey to know God, church should be about helping each other grow. We simply provide an environment where people can connect with God and take steps toward Him.

Search, investigate, be transformed! The purpose of our Sunday morning service is to reveal how Biblical principles and a relationship with God can transform our lives. We try to paint a picture of what it means to be a Jesus follower so that those who haven't put their faith in Him can investigate, and to encourage and challenge those who have put their faith in Him.
